Adult ADHD
Unfocused, racing thoughts, difficulty getting things done.
People don’t understand why you are the way you are…
Your whole life, you’ve known you’re a bit different than others. Somethings come to you a bit easier, while other things, like focusing and paying attention are still hard to do even after trying all the advice you’ve read and heard from others.
You either knew when you were a kid you had ADHD, or are now starting to wonder maybe that person was right and I do have ADHD.
If only others knew how much ADHD affects your everyday life? How you have a to do list 100 items long and that list just keeps getting longer. You have dreams you know that you can achieve but feel like you’re crawling forward towards it.
Maybe you find yourself wishing you had a time machine and can go back to your school years or early 20’s and do it differently. Relationships, job, education...somewhere in there you messed up.
As a kid you were told you’re smart and things came easily to you, but for some reason along the way you got distracted (literally) and have found yourself not living the life you wanted.
Your relationship has taken a hit with your significant other wondering “why the heck can’t you be normal?”
Your significant other may be pressuring you to change, asking you to figure it out so they’re not mad at you when you forget something you said you would do.
Getting treatment for ADHD is worth it.
I am a Certified Clinical Services Provider, having met the clear and established guidelines of training as set forth by the Institute of Certified ADHD Professionals, whose advisors include experts in the field of ADHD research. This Institute and its certification process have been endorsed by CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), a CDC-funded national clearinghouse for evidence-based information about ADHD. As a result, you can be confident that I am able to offer you the treatment and change you deserve.
What takes place…
I will start by getting to know you and the include a thorough assessment to diagnose if you have ADHD and to what degree it is impacting you. With this information we will collaboratively build a plan together to address the areas in your life most impacted including work, relationships, career, and even your free time.
We’ll also look at all options that interest you including
Medication
Mindfulness training
Executive skill building - especially around the executive skills of task initiation, response inhibition, time management, and sustaining attention.
Technology assistance
other therapy processes to help work on anything else that is showing up including past rejections, anxiety, substance misuse, etc.
Still have questions about starting treatment…
I’ve tried everything, what makes this so special?
ADHD takes a lot of energy and brain power, kinda like the old adage ‘I used to walk to school uphill, both ways’ Some things you’ve tried may have worked for the short term, but you’re still struggling with the big things. WIth our assessment of what are your strengths and weaknesses, we’ll have a clear plan outlined to target change that lasts.
I’m not really sure if I want to take medication. Will you pressure me into it?
No, I will never pressure you into taking medication. Just like any professional, I can share with you the pros and cons of medication, but ultimately it is up to you to decide. Medication is not needed for everyone or even recommended. Treatment will focus on building skills and making small changes that will make big changes in your life for the better.
I actually like myself with my ADHD, most of the time. Will I still be me?
Many individuals with ADHD, benefit from the creativity, higher energy, and other strengths that it brings. Where it gets challenging is when the deficits interfere with the quality of your life and future goals. The reality is you will always have ADHD, it’s just something we’ll be learning to manage together. You can keep all the things you love about you, and learn to build upon the others to live the life you want.
